Ethiopian Evangelical Church stands in the

main stream of historical Christianity.

I. Holy Scriptures:

We believe in the scriptures both the old and new testaments of the Bible as being the verbally inspired word of God and completely inerrant in the original writings and the supreme and final authority in all matters of faith and practice. The Bible does not simply contain the Word of God, but is in reality the complete revelation and very Word of God inspired by the Holy Spirit. This enables Christians to understand the scriptures, but God does not grant new revelations which are contrary or additional to inspired biblical truth.

II. The God Head

The God head exists eternally in three persons as the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are one God having the same nature and attributes and are worthy of the same homage confidence and obedience.

i. The Father: Exits eternally and is the creator of heaven and earth, visible and invisible, the given of the low, to whom all things will be subject so that he may be all in all.

ii. The Son: The Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal and only begotten Son of the Father is the true God and true man, conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary and by his sinless life, miracles and teaching gave full revelation of the Father. He died upon the Cross the just and for the unjust as a substitute sacrifice for our sins, was buried, rose bodily from the dead, appeared to men, ascended into heaven. Who now sits on the right hand side of the Father and intercedes for us and who is coming again with a great power and Glory to establish his kingdom in righteousness and peace.

iii. The Holy Spirit: We believe the Holy Spirit is God, the comforter who inspired the prophets and apostles of old, who now indwells, empowers and distributes spiritual gifts to be exercised by the believers for spiritual edification of the church, and who convicts the world concerning sin, righteousness and judgement.

III. Man

Man was originally created in the image and likeness of God. He fell through sin and as a consequence incurred both spiritual and physical death. Spiritual death and depravity of human nature have been transmitted to the entire human race with the exception of the man Christ Jesus.

IV. Salvation

Salvation has been provided for all men through the sacrifice of Christ upon the cross. It is the only perfect redemption and sub-stitutionary atonement of all the sins of the world, both the original and actual. His atoning work has been proven by his resurrection from the dead. Those who repent and believe in Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and receive eternal life. Furthermore in the atonement divine healing was provided for all believers.

V. Baptism in the Holy Spirit

The baptism in the Holy Spirit is an experience in which the believer yields control of himself to the Holy Spirit. Through this he comes to know Christ in a more intimate way and receives power to witness and grow spiritually. Believers should earnestly seek the baptism in the Holy Spirit according to the command of our Lord Jesus Christ. The initial evidence of the baptism in the Holy Spirit is speaking in other tongues as the spirit gives utterance. This experience is distinct from and subsequent to the experience of the new birth.

VI. The Gifts of the Spirit

The gifts of the Spirit are supernatural abilities given by God through the experiencing of which believers are enabled to minister effectively and directly in particular situations. They serve the dual function of building up the church and of demonstrating the presence of God within his church.

VII. Divine Healing

Diving healing provided in the atonement of Christ is the privilege of all believers. Prayer for the sick and gifts of healing are encouraged and practiced.

VIII. The Church

The church is the Bride of Christ and the body of believers in Christ, who have joined together to function as part of the body of the universal church. The local church is ordained by God and provides a context in which believers corporally worship God, observe the ordinances of the church, are instructed in the faith, and are equipped for the evangelization of the world.

IX. Ordinances

The church has the responsibility and privilege to protect the following ordinances:

i. The Lord’s Supper: is a symbol memorial and proclamation of the suffering and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. This ordinance of communion is to be participated in by believers until Christ returns.

ii. Water Baptism: signifies the believers identification with Christ in his death, burial, and resurrection and is practiced by immersion in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

iii. Marriage: the church performs a marriage ceremony between a Christian man believer and a Christian woman believer entering into such union to live in a state of matrimony.

X. Resurrection of the dead

As the Lord Jesus Christ rose bodily from the dead, the righteous and the sinners will likewise rise from the dead and the righteous will share everlasting eternal Glory of God in heaven and the sinners will be judged and cast everlasting punishment which is the second death.

XI. The Rapture

We believe in the second coming of Christ which is the blessed hope of all believers and both the living shall be transformed and the dead in Christ shall be resurrected and caught up to meet Christ in the air and be with him forever.

XII. The Second Coming Of Christ

We believe that our Lord Jesus Christ will come again to set up his kingdom. He will raise the dead and judge all human beings, the wicked shall be separated from God’s presence, but the righteous shall live with him forever.

XIII. Angels

Angels are created by God as intelligent and powerful beings, innumerable heavenly hosts who fulfil and serve the purpose of God. They are also messengers of God and guardians of all saints from evil.

XIV. Satan

Satan is the originator of sin that fell through pride and was followed by those angels who rebelled against God. These fallen angels, demons or evil spirits, are active in opposing the purpose of God. The believer may have complete liberty from the influence and gain complete victory of demons in Christ.

XV. Heaven

Heaven is a holy heavenly place where believers live forever with God.

XVI. Lake Of Fire (Second Death)

Lake of Fire is a place prepared for the devil and his followers to live in everlasting suffering and punishment.

XVII. Final Judgement

There will be a final judgment in which at the great white throne, according to their works, whoever is not found in the book of life shall be cast into the lake of fire which has everlasting punishment, and whoever is found in the book of life will inherit an everlasting life in heaven.
